See the 2024 Tax Table in the Instructions for Form 1040 to determine your tax. Attach Form 8805 to the back of your return. If your Form W-2 shows an incorrect SSN or name, notify your employer or the form-issuing agent as soon as possible to make sure your earnings are credited to your social security record. All payers of income, including financial institutions, should be promptly notified of the taxpayer’s death. A joint return should show your spouse’s 2024 income before death and your income for all of 2024. If this information isn’t provided, it may delay the processing of the return.

You can also use Schedule 1 to claim certain tax deductions. Form 1040 Schedule 1 allows you to claim additional sources of income that aren’t listed on Form 1040, including unemployment compensation, prize or award money, and gambling winnings. If you claim any education credits, you’ll also need Form 8863.
If your IRA includes nondeductible contributions, the distribution is first considered to be paid out of otherwise taxable income. If you elect to include your nontaxable combat pay in your earned income when figuring the EIC, enter the amount on line 1i. If you make the one-time QCD to an SIE, you must attach a statement to your return. This includes any amount (up to $53,000) of a one-time QCD to a split-interest entity (SIE).
